| WWW.CONTAINERSTORY.COM A Film by Thomas Greh ocumentary celebrating 50 years of containerization WWW.CONTAINERSTORY.COM A beautifully shot, entertaining and surprising documentary about how Malcom McLean, a farmer's son from North Carolina, turned a simple metal box into one of the most astounding and influential inventions of the past century. In 2006, a revolutionary technology that dramatically changed our world is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Containerized shipping was introduced in April of 1956 from a dock in Newark, New Jersey, where the first container boxes were shipped, making Port Elizabeth the world's first container port. The man who conceived this remarkable idea was Malcom McLean, an American entrepreneur of extraordinary caliber who grew up a farmer's son in depression-era North Carolina. Arguably one of the most noteworthy and far-reaching inventions of our times is a simple, standardized metal box called the container. Containerized shipping is a relatively simple technology that has transformed the world. It has changed our daily lives in many, profound ways. The container has had an intense effect on commerce, our homes, society, and the global economy. Yet we seem oblivious to its historical impact and often even to its sheer existence. This film will literally let out the story of a 50-year-old box! THE CONTAINER STORY is a feature documentary that uses rare archival footage, sensitive interviews with some key figures like Malcom McLean, Paul Richardson and Charles Cushing - as well as unexpected, artistic photography and editing, interweaving history with the present. The film also sheds light on the importance of Malcom McLean's idea as a stepping-stone, ushering-in a truly global society. The result is an entertaining and informative film that will surprise viewers and inspire them to take a second look at the world around them. THE CONTAINER STORY is the only comprehensive documentary worldwide to tell the history of 50 years of containerization and Malcom McLean's life and work. The documentary has been broadcast in Europe and Asia. Upcoming prominent broadcastings are scheduled for April 5, 2006 at 9 PM on 3sat (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) and June 2, 2006 on ARTE (Franco-German channel). A public premiere will be held on March 31, 2006 at 7 PM in Bremen, Germany. Shipping corporations are using THE CONTAINER STORY in their development, training and marketing departments worldwide. The film is also being incorporated into educational programs by leading U.S. maritime schools and transportation libraries. Museums are using the film in their exhibits. The film is available for personal, corporate and institutional use through the Web site WWW.CONTAINERSTORY.COM or by contacting the production company's producer and U.S. representative: Email Tanya Bandmann, trifilm GmbH, or phone (973) 218-1198. |
